Description

WRScompass was award a $6.7 MM design/build contract to evaluate the City’s sanitary sewer system via CCTV and cleaning, and to perform rehabilitation work, either trenchless rehabilitation or open cut replacement, in accordance with our investigation results.  The contract was not based on specific quantities of any particular service, rather unit prices for a variety of work were established and WRS completed as much work as possible with the funding that was available.

WRScompass was selected for this contract based on our trenchless technologies capabilities and our team’s ability to provide a Design Build, Shovel Ready project which qualified the City for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Funds. By converting the contract from a straight SSES (Sanitary Sewer Evaluation and Survey) project to a design/build contact, we were able to begin rehabilitation work very quickly.

WRScompass was responsible for all aspects of the work.  This included evaluation, engineering, maintenance of traffic (MOT), subcontracting various services and performing approximately 50% of the work with our own staff.  We were also responsible for community relations and made periodic presentations to the City Council and public to keep them updated on our progress.

Project Scope

WRScompass crews performed all of the pipe bursting, point repairs, lateral reconnects and MOT.  MOT was extensive due to all of the work being performed in the middle of the City streets.  Subcontractors were used to perform the CCTV and cleaning of the sewer, installation of the CIPP lining systems, asphalt paving and trucking.

Completed scope of work:

  • CCTV and Cleaned 93,000 LF of sanitary sewer
  • Rehabilitated 38,800 LF of sanitary sewer using CIPP and Pipe Bursting
  • Reinstated 750 Sanitary Services to businesses and homes
  • Installed 26 new manholes
  • Installed 64 new manhole ring and covers
  • 113 Point Repairs on the sanitary mains prior to rehabilitation work
  • 113 Point Repairs on the sanitary mains prior to rehabilitation work
  • Rehabilitated 780 verticle feet of manholes using cementitious coating
  • Installed 98 sanitary sewer Bypass systems
  • Provided community relations to inform the local residents and City of our work and to respond to any complaints that arose as a result of our work
  • Provide Maintenance of Traffic for all WRS and subcontractor work

Because the project was design/build we were able to significantly reduce the engineering time and cost for the project.  Within 4 weeks of beginning CCTV and Cleaning, rehabilitation work began.  Because of the expedited schedule, engineering costs were reduced to 6% of the project value.
