Attorney General Admits Mistaken Identity With Clean-Up Company

by Alan McBride

PENSACOLA, FLA. --
Florida's Attorney General is counseling Floridians to be on the look-out for frauds and hoaxes in connection with oil spill relief efforts, and he says double-checking is a good idea in the bargain.

That admission was made Wednesday with more than a touch of chagrin.

McCollum observed that a company he had mistakenly named as one of the shadier ones turned out to be entirely legitimate and above-board.

The company, WRS Compass, is offering mitigation and repair services in the Panhandle and big bend area.

McCollum admitted his mistake during an apology in the middle of a press conference.

The Florida Attorney General went out of his way to make sure that the apology was as public as possible, saying, "WRS Compass is a good company. We checked them out, and they're legitimate."

He said there were scams out there, but he'd rather not name names just yet, given his earlier gaffe.
