WRScompass, d/b/a WRS Infrastructure & Environment Inc., was awarded a $30 million contract for levee construction and additional work in and around New Orleans for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  

The Tampa-based company will work on the Louisiana Hurricane Storm Damage Risk Reduction Systems (HSDRRS) project, including Lake Cataouatchee and the east-west levee in St. Charles Parish. 

“Our last role in New Orleans was in emergency response to Hurricane Katrina,” said Luke Frantz, President of the Government Business Unit for WRScompass, “so it is exciting to return to this great city to work on a project which will protect it against future hurricanes and disasters.” 

The scope of the projectwill consist of, butnot be limited to, constructing new levees, clearing and grubbing, unwatering, building permanent bridges and access roads, removing existing temporary bridges and roadways, stone armoring, fertilizing, seeding and mulching, and ancillary work.

Bids were solicited on the Web with four received. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, New Orleans, LA,is the contracting agency. The project code is (W912P8-10-C-0062)and is scheduled for completion in August 2011.
